Privacy Policy
StockChat is an app and website where you add stocks as "contacts" and chat with them to see market data, technical levels and fundamentals. This policy explains what information we collect, why, who we share it with and the choices you have. By using StockChat you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
- Account details: your name, mobile number (with country code) and email address. If you sign up with a mobile number we store your password only as a salted, one-way hash — we never see or store the password itself.
- Google sign-in: if you continue with Google, Google shares your Google account ID, name and email address with us. We do not receive your Google password.
- Truecaller sign-in (when available): Truecaller shares your verified mobile number and name with us.
- Your activity in the app: the stocks in your watchlist (including archived chats), your chat messages and the replies generated for them, your daily chat usage and plan, and any replies you report to us.
- Settings: the language you want replies in, and whether you want the morning notification.
- Notification token: if you allow notifications, Google Firebase Cloud Messaging gives your phone or browser a random device token, which we store with your account to send the morning update. It contains no personal details.
- Technical data: app version, and standard server logs such as IP address, time and requested address, used for security and troubleshooting.
- On your device: the app keeps your sign-in session, watchlist and recent chats in local storage on your phone or browser so it works quickly and offline.
2. How we use your information
- To create your account, sign you in and keep you signed in until you log out.
- To answer your questions about stocks in the language you choose, show charts and send the daily pre-market update in your stock chats, with a notification if you turned it on.
- To send one-time password-reset codes to your email.
- To apply daily chat limits, prevent abuse, keep the service secure and fix problems.
- To review replies you report as offensive or misleading and improve the answers.
- To contact you about your account or important changes to the service.
We do not sell your personal information and we do not show third-party ads.
3. Who we share information with
We share only what each service needs to work:
- AI model providers (through OpenRouter or Groq): the text of your chat question, recent messages in that chat and the stock data needed to answer it. We do not send your name, mobile number or email.
- Market data providers (such as Yahoo Finance): only stock symbols, to fetch prices and company information.
- Google: for Google sign-in, and Firebase Cloud Messaging to deliver notifications (it receives the device token and the notification text).
- Zoho (ZeptoMail and Zoho Mail): to deliver password-reset emails to your address, and to receive the emails you send to support@stockchat.app.
- Logo services (such as TradingView, logo.dev or Google): your device loads company logos from them, so they can see your device's IP address.
- Hosting: our servers run on Oracle Cloud; app downloads are also published on GitHub.
- Legal reasons: if required by law, court order or to protect the rights and safety of users and StockChat.
4. How long we keep it
- Account details, watchlist and chat history: until you clear them in the app or delete your account.
- Database backups: up to 90 days, after which deleted data is gone from backups too.
- Password-reset codes: expire after 10 minutes and are deleted once used.
- Notification tokens: until you log out on that device, delete your account, or the token stops working.
- Server logs: up to 90 days.
5. Security
All traffic uses HTTPS. Passwords are stored as salted scrypt hashes, sessions use signed tokens, and accounts are locked for 15 minutes after repeated wrong passwords. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password that you don't use elsewhere.
6. Your choices and rights
- Update your name, email or mobile number in the app's Profile; change your password there too.
- Clear any chat or remove any stock from your list at any time.
- Turn the morning notification off in Profile, or block notifications in your phone or browser settings.
- Delete your account and all its data instantly from the app: Profile → Delete account. You can also email us; see stockchat.app/delete-account for both options and what is kept.
- Ask us for a copy of your data or to correct it by emailing support@stockchat.app from your registered email (or tell us your registered mobile number). We complete requests within 30 days.
- Log out at any time from the app menu; this removes your session and cached data from that device.
If you are in India, you have rights under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, including access, correction, erasure and grievance redressal. Our grievance contact is support@stockchat.app.
7. Children
StockChat is meant for adults. It is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. We will change the effective date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
